Student Experience in English
As an English major at CSU, your education unfolds across classrooms, communities, and experiences both on and off campus.
Put your interests into practice through student publications and organizations, internships, education abroad, events, and collaborative research. These experiences give you space to build community, gain confidence, and grow into a clearer sense of who you are and what matters to you—both during college and beyond.
Internships & Student Employment
Test out possible career paths while doing impactful, real-world work. From publishing and education to nonprofit advocacy and student media, hands-on internships and engaged work experiences provide space to explore your interests and imagine your next chapter.
Greyrock Review
During this yearlong internship, students gain hands-on experience in every stage of literary publishing, from evaluating submissions to promoting and producing a literary journal. As a member of the Greyrock Review staff, interns attend weekly meetings where they read and discuss poetry, fiction, and nonfiction submissions, contribute to copyediting and proofreading, help manage author correspondence, and support the marketing and publication of the forthcoming issue.

Education Abroad
The English department offers several opportunities to study abroad while earning your degree, including four summer programs led by department faculty.

-
Summer in Oxford, England
This five-week program allows University Honors students and high-achieving English majors/minors to earn eight credits while studying closely with Oxford-affiliated faculty through one-on-one tutorials in their chosen field. Alongside coursework, students experience England’s literary and cultural history firsthand through visits to Windsor Castle, the reconstructed Globe Theatre, Bath, Stratford-upon-Avon, and various sites around Oxford.
-
Sustainable Energy Futures in Denmark
This two-week program immerses students in Denmark’s innovative approach to sustainability and renewable energy. Based in Copenhagen, students learn from local experts while exploring offshore wind energy, citizen energy cooperatives, carbon-neutral neighborhoods, and other leading sustainability initiatives. Program highlights include an overnight visit to Samsø’s award-winning Energy Academy, a sustainability-focused bike tour, and opportunities to experience Danish culture and cuisine firsthand.
-
Paris in Symbols
This two-week program invites students to explore Paris as a global center of culture, history, and social change.
