At the recent Celebrate Colorado State! event, two English faculty members received prestigious university-wide awards.
Pam Coke received the Jack E. Cermak Outstanding Advisor Award. Pam thoroughly deserves this award. As an advisor, she demonstrates repeatedly that students are important to her through her gifts of time and attention. Pam recognizes and brings out the best in others. And she changes lives, keeping students on track to attain their goals in life through equal measures of patience and firmness, unflagging support and constant “reality checks.”
Dan Beachy-Quick was named a Monfort Professor. This prestigious award is given to a “rising star” and comes with a budget to advance the recipient’s work. These professorships have generally been awarded to faculty in the sciences and social sciences. As the first Monfort Professor from the Humanities, Dan will bring a perspective to the work that is deeply grounded in the exploration, understanding, and articulation of human experience. Already nationally and internationally recognized as a poet, we also know him for his outstanding teaching and his generosity as a colleague. Dan truly deserves this distinction.
Our thanks to our internal nomination committee of Leslee Becker and Sarah Sloane, whose excellent nominations brought these two colleagues to the attention of the university’s selection committees.
