The TEFL/TESL Student Association will host the second of two events in this informational series on Friday, December 1st, from 2-3 p.m. in Eddy 104.

In short, this series provides a forum for students and faculty/instructors to discuss relevant topics in a relatively informal (and non-threatening) environment. The session will be led by Bianca Melendrez Valenzuela, a current graduate student in Creative Writing, pursuing both the MFA and the Graduate Certificate in TESOL Education in the Department of English. The details for Bianca’s session can be found below.

Session Two

Title: Creative Writing for ESL Students

Session leader(s): Bianca Melendrez Valenzuela

Description: For this session, Bianca will share the research that she is currently undertaking about the potential of creative writing workshops for engaging English as a Second Language (ESL) students in the classroom. Based on her work, Bianca will share insights into how creative writing can offer up a unique and useful approach to both improve students writing skills in a low-stakes, fun environment, but also help them make their non-native language feel more like their own and improve in both their proficiency and confidence levels in English.

Light refreshments will be provided, typically some snacks and drinks. But we also encourage you to bring a snack for yourself (or everyone!) to enjoy during the session.
