“Archive of the Animal: The Many Lives of Parchment” – A Lecture by Leading Literary Scholar and Novelist, Dr. Bruce Holsinger
September 22 at 5:30 PM in the CSU Smith Alumni Center,
Seminar Room 2 (Room 0310)
Bruce Holsinger, Professor of English at the University of Virginia, is a leading scholar in medieval studies and literary theory, an analyst of contemporary political discourse, and a novelist. His many awards include the Colorado Book Award (2019) and a Guggenheim Fellowship.
His lecture will explore the role of parchment, or treated animal skin, in the transmission and preservation of written culture form the ancient world through the Digital Age. The deep history of parchment is an unending cycle of animal death, human craft, and cultural remembrance: the chronicle of a civilization.
This event is sponsored by the CSU English Department and a grant from the Lilla B. Morgan Memorial Endowment, a premier supporter of arts and culture at CSU.
