Join us for the ninth annual ACT Human Rights Film Festival opening night! ACT brings the best and most recent human rights cinema to northern Colorado. Through the shared experience of film and conversation, ACT cultivates empathy and new perspectives.

Reception

Join us on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. for an opening reception in the Lory Student Center Theatre lobby.

Parking on campus is free in most areas after 4:00 p.m. Parking map: [link]. The nearest lots are 310 or 425.

Film + Guest Speakers

After the reception will be a 6:15 p.m. screening of the documentary film Si Pudiera Quedarme (If I Could Stay) (Florencia Krochik and Theo Rigby, 2024, United States, 75 minutes) in the LSC Theatre. This film  is an intimate portrait of two undocumented Latinx mothers who go to dramatic lengths to fend off deportation and separation from their families in the United States.

Following the film, How We Get Free will screen, which follows the intrepid Elisabeth Epps over the course of two years as she works to abolish cash bail in Colorado and put an end to the criminalization of poverty.

In-person guests include Si Pudiera Quedarme co-directors Florencia Krochik and Theo Rigby and film participants: Jeanette Vizguerra and Ingrid Encalada Latorre.

Both films will be presented bilingually in English/Spanish. HOW WE GET FREE will be live-interpreted, and IF I COULD STAY / SI PUDIERA QUEDARME will be presented in both English/Spanish subtitles. Live interpreters will be present for the spoken conversations. Entry to the reception is included with a film ticket to see IF I COULD STAY with HOW WE GET FREE.
