Biography

Associate Professor and Director of Composition. B.A., M.A., English, Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville; Ph.D., Rhetoric and Composition, Purdue University.

Professor Langstraat teaches Composition Theory and Pedagogy, Literacy Studies, Service-Learning, Cultural Studies, History of Rhetoric, Feminist Theory and Literature, Critical Theory, Qualitative Research Methods, and Writing Program Administration. She is currently exploring two areas of research: pedagogies and theories of service-learning and civic discourse, and rhetorical constructions of emotion in contemporary culture, particularly in light of legal discourse and community literacies. Coauthor of a textbook, Four Worlds of Writing: Inquiry and Action in Context (4th ed.), Dr. Langstraat has published articles in such journals as JAC: A Quarterly Journal for the Interdisciplinary Study of Rhetoric, Writing, Multiple Literacies, and Politics, Composition Forum, Works and Days, and in several collections, including Multiple Literacies (2003) and Culture Shock: The Future of Graduate Studies in Composition (2004).
