Maya Angelou (April 4, 1928–May 28, 2014) would have been 89 years old today. We recently profiled her during Black History Month. She’s well known for poems such as “Still I Rise,” “Phenomenal Woman,” and “Caged Bird.” In this video, she reads her poem “A Brave and Startling Truth” which she wrote in commemoration of the UN’s 50th Anniversary in 1995.
