Guidelines for Submission

Fiction and Nonfiction

We consider short fiction and personal essays. There is no specific word count; however, A generally publishes short stories and essays that are under 25 manuscript pages.  A also accepts plays for submission.

Poetry

We consider poetry of any style. While we have no limit on how many poems you can submit, we would prefer that you limit it to three to five poems per submission.

Art (Black and white/color)

A now also accepts black and white and/or color artwork. This includes anything from photography to digital work to cartoons to pen and ink. You may send digital pictures of your artwork to our e-mail address or mail originals or digitals to the address below.  Artwork should be submitted on a CD (300dpi and hi-resolution .jpeg).  Include a self-addressed stamped envelope if you would like your work returned.

Format for all Submissions

1. Work is accepted year round and read from December 15 to March 30. A is published once a year, in the spring, and our deadline is December 15th.
2. All manuscripts must be typed (double-spaced for prose and single-spaced for poetry).
3. All manuscripts should be printed on white letter-sized paper.
4. Please include a cover letter with your full name, address, and the title of your work.  Please do not put your name anywhere on the manuscript.
5. Every submission MUST include an S.A.S.E. OR an e-mail address for response.
6. Please include proper postage if you want your work returned.
7. If submitting by e-mail, you may send your work as an attachment to submit to A at aliteraryjournal@gmail.com. 
8. Simultaneous submissions are accepted but we ask that writers notify A immediately if the work is accepted elsewhere.
9. We consider only previously unpublished work.
