Biography

Professor Amidon teaches courses designed to explore interconnections between rhetoric, writing, and technologies. His research program spans the fields of digital rhetoric, technical and professional communication, and public health with applied focuses in areas such as risk communication, user experience design, multimodal literacies, and rhetorics of/and data. His work has appeared in journals such as Technical Communication Quarterly, Kairos: A Journal of Rhetoric, Technology, and Pedagogy, Technical Communication, Journal of Business and Technical Communication, Communication Design Quarterly, and Composition Forum  as well as edited collections such as Amplifying Soundwriting Pedagogies: Integrating Sound into Rhetoric and Writing (Eds. Faris, Danforth, & Stedman), Routledge Companion on Media Education, Copyright, and Fair Use (Ed. Hobbs), Copy(write): Intellectual Property in the Writing Classroom (Eds. Courant Rife, Slattery, & DeVoss), Cultures of Copyright (Eds. Courant Rife & DeVoss).

He currently serves as the Director of both the Writing, Rhetoric, and Social Change M.A. Program and the Writing, Rhetoric, and Literacy B.A. concentration in English. In addition, Tim holds an appointment in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health in the Colorado School of Public Health and is a Faculty Affiliate in the Data Science Research Institute and Information Science and Technology Center. He also serves as a Section Editor for Kairos: A Journal of Rhetoric, Technology, and Pedagogy, which publishes born-digital peer-refereed scholarship.
