Biography

Professor Steensen (she, her) teaches poetry writing workshops, as well as literature classes, with particular focus on colonial American Literature, 19th Century American Literature, Modernism, and contemporary American poetry. She is at work on a collection of nonfiction essays and a hybrid project, Overland, which explores the geography, indigenous history, and the colonization, via the Overland Trail, of Northern Colorado.

She is the author of six books of poetry: A Magic Book, The Method, and House of Deer (all from Fence Books), Gatherest (Ahsahta Press), and most recently, Everything Awake (Shearsman Press) and Well (forthcoming, Parlor Press).  She has published several essays, including Openings: Into Our Vertical Cosmos (http://www.essaypress.org/ep-40/) and The (Un)familiar Essay (https://www.tupeloquarterly.com/the-unfamiliar-essay-by-sasha-steensen/).  She is a poetry editor for Colorado Review and an editor for the Test Site Poetry SeriesLearn more about her work at https://sashasteensen.com/
