Biography

Genesea M. Carter is the Associate Director of Composition and an Associate Professor at Colorado State University. Her current research agenda explores the ways in which administrative life and program health (curriculum design, program development, teacher training, workload equity, etc.) are shaped by systems and networks—and how this constellation of influences impact instructors’ professional and personal well-being.

In September 2023, her second co-edited collection, Systems Shift: Creating and Navigating Change in Rhetoric and Composition Administration, was published by the WAC Clearinghouse. As a former homeschooled kid from Kindergarten through 12th grade, her past research agenda has explored how students from all walks of life learn to navigate discourse communities, identities, belonging, and academia. This work appears in Writer: Craft & Context, Composition Studies, Open Words: Access and English Studies, and the Journal of Teaching Writing, as well as her co-edited collection Class in the Composition Classroom: Pedagogy and the Working Class.
