Biography

After a non-traditional return to college in 2005, I graduated from CSU in 2009 with a BA in English Education and Creative Writing. Subsequently, during the 2009-2010 school-year, I taught 8th Grade Language Arts at Blevins Middle School. Before this middle-aged academic incarnation and middle-school teacher stint, I stayed at home to raise my five children and many dogs, plus I was an active community volunteer.

I returned to CSU in 2010, worked as a GTA for two years, and received my MA in English / Creative Nonfiction in 2012. Since the fall of 2012, I have been teaching composition, literature, and creative writing courses at CSU as an adjunct instructor. Currently, I am also an Instructor in Composition Administration where I help train and mentor GTAs who teach CO 150.

I write in the genres of creative nonfiction, fiction, screenwriting, and poetry. My passion is writing about the expression of ability, creativity, and joy in populations who live with unique developmental challenges. I am grateful for the daily privilege of teaching, writing and reading.

In July of 2013, my literary memoir, Life with a Superhero: Raising Michael Who has Down Syndrome, was released by the University of North Texas Press. Please feel free to check out the website: www.lifewithasuperhero.com
